First Eucharist
The holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation. Those who have been raised to the dignity of the royal priesthood by Baptism and configured more deeply to Christ by Confirmation participate with the whole community in the Lord's own sacrifice by means of the Eucharist.
At the Last Supper, on the night he was betrayed, our Savior instituted the Eucharistic sacrifice of his Body and Blood. This he did in order to perpetuate the sacrifice of the cross throughout the ages until he should come again, and so to entrust to his beloved Spouse, the Church, a memorial of his death and resurrection: a sacrament of love, a sign of unity, a bond of charity, a Paschal banquet 'in which Christ is consumed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us.
Catechism of the Catholic Church 1322 & 1323
A child preparing for the Sacrament of First Eucharist must be registered in the parish school of religion. Preparations begin in the early spring of the child's second-grade year. Preparation for First Eucharist begins with a family retreat. Parents and catechist work closely together to prepare the child for the reception of the sacrament celebrated in May. Parents are required to attend a parent meeting, as well as, a scheduled rehearsal, picture, and reception night. Per our policy, the child must have one year of religious education before second grade.
Parents of children older than the 2nd grade who have not yet prepared for Reconciliation and/or the Eucharist are also welcome to participate in training. Please speak with the Director of Religious Education about how to join.
PSR registration begins at the start of the school year, but a child can be registered at any time. You may use the form on the PSR page
