The O.C.I.A. program is a series of faith formation sessions for adults. There are 4 reasons a person might want to attend OCIA. The name of the program was changed in 2023 to O.C.I.A. This was a translation from Latin update changing it to Order rather than Rite.
First, they may never have been baptized and wish to inquire into the Catholic faith.
Second, they may have been baptized in another Christian denomination and wish to inquire into the Catholic faith.
Third, they may be Catholic but feel they do not know their faith as well as they should and would like to really know their faith in a much deeper more meaningful way.
Fourth, they may have left the Catholic faith and are now interested in coming home to the Catholic faith. They want to learn more about the faith and what they may have missed while absent.
The group meets weekly for nine months. They begin in August and meet until the feast of the Pentecost. Each new Inquirer is assigned a sponsor from the parish. The process is meant to lead to the conversion of mind and heart, culminating in the celebration of the Sacrament of Initiation; Baptism for those never baptized, Profession of Faith for those already baptized, Confirmation, and Eucharist. They are welcomed into the Church at the Vigil of Easter.
